Many of our customers still have volumes of music, radio programs and recorded
family moments on old 5/16 inch (1/4 inch) reel to reel tape. Just like old cine
film, these recordings are priceless and should be preserved in a format that is
stable and useable. We can transfer & convert all of your 2, 4 & 8 track audio
tapes, Vinyl LPs, Mini/Micro & Cassettes onto CD or DVD-R, at whatever speed they
were recorded at.
We will take your old cassette or reel-to-reel tapes and make a clean sounding
CD or MP3 without TAPE NOISE! All original tapes/reels tracks will have enhanced
quality, the quality enhancement includes: 1. Background noise cancellation; 2.
Pop/Click/Hiss cancellation; 3. Enriched high frequency components. After the
quality enhancement your CDs or MP3 files will have much better quality
than your originals!

Information about Open Reel (Reel-to-Reel):
Reel to reel tape (or Open Reel Tape) came in many shapes and sizes. The most
common to the average consumer is 1/4" tape. Tape also came in 1/2", 1" and 2"
but was reserved mostly for the professional recording market. To determine what
you have, simply measure the tape, the actual tape not the reel. It should
measure a quarter inch in width. (Not thickness).
Next, reel tape came on many different sizes of reels. Most common among these
are 3 inch, 5 inch and 7 inch. Larger 10 1/2" reels were also made but not as
common. To determine what size reel you have, lay it down on a table and measure
across the surface of the reel as close to the middle as possible. Your
measurement may not be exactly the measurements above but it will be very close
to one of them. See the photo below for an example. Pricing here at Canaan
Technologies is based primarily on reel size.
